ONLY TWO DAYS TO GO TO THE 56th EDITION OF THE CAMPACCIO CROSS COUNTRY RACE

Only two days to go to the 56th edition of the Campaccio Cross Country race. The race schedule starts at 10.15 with the Masters races followed by youth competitions.

The entry figure has risen to 1300 participants confirming the importance of the race and the high-quality organizing standard of the US SANGIORGESE, the local club which celebrated its 90^th anniversary.

The starting gun for the women’s race will be fired at 14. Italian distance runner Elena Romagnolo, who may add her name to the winners’list of this race after her second place in 2010 behind multiple-Campaccio winner Aniko Kalovics, will be in the spotlight on Sunday. Thirty-year-old Romagnolo ran the 5000 m Olympic final in London where she finished 15^th.Also confirmed is the other Italian runner Silvia Weissteiner who did not perfor brilliantly at the European Cross Country Championships but bounced back at the Boclassic on 31 December where she finished fourth and first among the European runners. The two Italian runners will take on 22-year-old Afera Godfay who finished runner-up last Monday in Bolzano. Also representing Ethiopia are Ethiopians Tizita Bogale and Alem Gebremariam. US runner Kim Conley is also confirmed as announced yesterday. Kenya will be represented by Veronica Nyaruai who clocked a PB of 14:44.68 at last May’s Golden Gala and 3000 metres steeplechase specialist Milcah Chemos, who finished fourth at the London Olympic Games and won two world championships bronze medals in Berlin 2009 and Daegu 2011. You can predict that Kenyan runners will make a run for money to everyone.

The field also features a big group of Italian runners like Sicilian runner Angela Rinicella, wife of Yuri Floriani, who is on a training camp in Qatar, Giulia Viola, Laila Soufyane, Valeria Roffino, Fatna Maraoui, Elisa Cova, Elisa Desco and Alice Endrizzi. Thirty-two year-old Kenyan Priscah Cherono was forced to pull out of the race due to physical problems.

The youth women’s race will be also in the spotlight as it features Nicole Svetlana Reina. The girl of Ukrainian origin born in 1997, who was adopted by an Italian family when she was just five years old, will make her debut in the youth age group and will run for the first time for her new club Pro Patria Milano. Reina, who won four Italian under 16 titles in two years and set three National age group records in the 1000m, the 2000m and in the 3000m, has been trained by Italian middle distance and cross country coach Giorgio Rondelli
