STEEPLECHASE RUNNERS COMPETING IN THE WOMEN’S RACE.
Confirmed VIRGINIA NYAMBURA, first
in the Diamond League
(San Giorgio su Legnano) – A cast full of champions, for this edition, the organizing committee has enlisted athletes making impressive in the top runners list. An overall success, with more than 1100 participants between the amateurs and younger categories while the registrations are still open.

Mud, cold and struggle will be this year as usual the main ingredients of the day, that promises to be wintery and whit the exciting challenge between the female athletes usually competing in the 3000m steeplechase during summer, probably the sport most similar to cross country.
At 13.35 joining the women’s, race the 22 years old Kenyan Virginia Nyambura steeplechase specialist, placing first in the 2015 Diamond League sport rank. Second at the Golden Gala di Roma then first in Birmingham, Lausanne and Doha. In 3000m Steeplechase closed seventh at the World Championship in Beijing. She’s a fast girl but also strong and ready to take on the mud and the ups and downs of Campaccio
Another top athlete joining the list is the fellow Kenyan Mercy Cherono, silver in 5000m in Moscow 2013 and finalist in the 5000m in the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, not to forget, she is cross-country Junior World Champion in 2010 and silver medallist in 2009. “I already won Campaccio in 2012, I know and remember the course and I know where to attack – confirmed Mercy - I’m back to do a good race, It will be my first race of this season, a season that will get me to the Olympics. I’ll run other cross country races in the next weeks but Campaccio is really special”.
Confirmed at the starting line the Kenyan Alice Aprot, from Bahrain Ruth Jebet, great steeplechase runner too and Olympic finalist, Linet Masai Kenyan Olympic finalist, forth in Beijing in 10.000m and bronze medallist in 10.000m in the 2011 World Championship. From USA Nicole Bush National champion in 2013 for steeplechase and the British Lily Partridge with a personal best of 1h10’32” in the half marathon, then the Ethiopian Sofia Assefa steeplechase bronze medallist in London 2012 and three times finalist at the World Championships 2011, 2013 e 2015.
With the steeplechase runners leading the race, it will be a though competitions for the Azzurre, preparing to do their best to keep the pace and put themselves in the spotlight.
