January 2015: 58° Campaccio, Federica Del Buono will be one of the best
athletes competing for the win on the fields in San Giorgio su Legnano, with a
fifth place at the Zurich European Championship, a personal best of 4’05”32”on
1.500mt and 2’00’58” on 800 mt run with a not perfect path.
Federica, from the trackfield
to cross country. Why you will run the Campaccio?
“I can’t miss the chance to
run such an high level cross country at home. I need to learn about this
discipline and I’m looking forward to be at the starting line”
You know that you will be
running with the world’s best athletes?
“Yes and it’s exciting. The winter
season is essential, I’m really weak and I need to strengthen legs, ankles and
feet. Thanks to the cross I’ll run better next summer.”
What is your schedule on 2015?
“I already did two cross, I’ll
do the Italian Championship, I’ll be at the 3000m at the indoor European
Championship in Prague and at the in indoor Italian Championship, but the real
target is the outdoor next summer, U23 European Championship and Beijing World
Championship”
What you feel is still missing
in Federica Del Buono to reach the next step in 2015?
“I hope to be better in
general. A winter season without problems will be already a good point for a
good summer as I was always late with the training. I will be more selective, doing highest level
competitions, so I can try to improve with the help of great athletes”
2015 will be the year of your confirmation. Do
you feel this as a responsibility?
“Not really and actually I
like it. At the beginning of the last season I was not really considered, for
good reasons as I didn’t already show my potential. Now that I’m often under
the spotlight, I feel the need to double my effort, to put all myself into the
race”.
How Federica Del Buono trains?
“My trainer is my mum, I run
on the trackfield about twice a week then I run on the street, also up the hill
to work on my strength. I run on different grounds. Always twice a day, one
running, the other technical and fitness.” “I like to train at home and by
myself, I have my balance and I don’t want to change at the moment as the
results are good. I’m ok with the stages abroad but for a short time as I don’t
want to change my mother as trainer.”
The other athletes competing with
Federica del Buono are Veronica Inglese, 2014 Italian Champion on the
10000 mt, 3rd at the Giulietta&Romeo Half Marathon for the Italian Half
Marathon Championship; Peres Jepchichir from Kenya, used to longer
distance; again from Kenya Janet Kisa
under the spotlights in several summer Diamond League meetings on the 3000 e 5000 meters, Ruth Jebet from
Bahrain, Asian Champion and 2014 Junior World Champion in 3000 steeplechase with 9’36”74. On the list the Belgian Almenesh Belete, with
